1 - Mother's Day Breakfast and Nature Walk
Still not sure what to do for Mother's Day?  Well, a little fresh air makes a great gift. On Sunday, May 14, join the Massachusetts Audubon Society at its Moose Hill Sanctuary in Sharon, MA, for hour-long guided tours beginning at 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 AM.   Follow that up with a pancake breakfast with Moose Hill's very own maple syrup. For more info call 781-784-5691 or visit www.massaudubon.org for directions.

2 - Connecticut Trails Day
Did you know that there are over 700 miles of hiking trails in the Connecticut's Blue-Blazed Hiking Trail system?  If you didn't, June 3rd, Connecticut Trails Day, is your chance to get to know them.  Equestrian rides, interpretive walks, hikes, and trail maintenance are some of the activities that you'll find scattered about the four corners of the state.  For more info contact the Connecticut Forest & Park Association at 860-346-TREE or visit www.ctwoodlands.org.

3 - Become a River Advocate
If you have seen the rivers in your local community succumb to shoreline development and pollution, now is your chance to do something about it.  Sign up for the Appalachian Mountain Club's Third Annual River Conservation Leadership School.   You'll learn about current issues in river conservation and get a basic understanding of watershed science through classroom discussion, role-playing, and on-the-water training.  For more info contact Peter Donahue at 617-523-0655 or visit www.outdoors.org.

4 - Sustainability in Rhode Island
A meeting of the minds took place at the Rhode Island Sustainability Conference 2000 last month at Johnson & Wales University.  Workshops were presented on agriculture, source water protection, economic development, urban revitalization, and sustainable communities.  Greg Watson, of the Massachusetts Renewable Energy Fund and Board Member of the Environmental Federation of New England, delivered the keynote address.  For a complete breakdown of the conference co-hosted by Clean Water Action, visit www.cleanwateraction.org or call them at 401-331-6972.

5 - Earth Night 2000
Do you have any interest in spending a week in the Amazon Rain Forest?  What about taking a trip with 19 of your friends on a high-speed catamaran?  Or, maybe playing a round of golf with US Senator John Kerry is your idea of fun?  Bid on these auction items and many more at the Environmental League of Massachusetts' Earth Night 2000 celebration on May 20 from 7-11 PM at the Federal Courthouse in Boston.  For more info contact Jeremy Marin at 617-742-8822 or visit www.EarthNight.org.

6 - R2K Conference & Exposition
Are you curious to see what the future holds for bottle redemptions?  See what experts have to say at the Northeast Resource Recovery Association's 19th Annual R2K Conference & Exposition on June 12, 13, and 14.  This three-day session in Burlington, VT, features workshops on solid waste recycling, programs, careers, and materials, as well as a "Buy Recycled Emporium" and environmental exhibitors.   Plus, you won't want to miss the Skid Steer Rodeo…a must for those who like to put the pedal to the metal.  For more info contact NRRA at 603-224-6996 or visit www.homestead.nrra.com.
