Fact Sheet

Description
Earth Share of New England is a coalition of organizations working to protect and preserve natural resources and public health in New England, across the country and around the world. Earth Share of New England was established in 1992 as the Environmental Federation of New England to foster environmental philanthropy through workplace giving (akin to a United Way) and public education.  Since our inception, we have raised more than $2 million for the environment.

Member Charities
The members of Earth Share of New England include many of the most well known and well-regarded environmental organizations in New England and across the country. Members include national groups such as The Nature Conservancy and American Rivers, international groups like the Rainforest Alliance and World Wildlife Fund, regional chapters of national groups such as the Clean Water Fund, region-wide organizations such as the Appalachian Mountain Club, and state and local organizations such as the Massachusetts Audubon Society, the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, the Connecticut Forest & Park Association, Vermont Land Trust, and Boston’s Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative.

Employer Partners
Since 1992, Earth Share of New England has participated in more than 15 federal employee campaigns, state employee campaigns in Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont, and Massachusetts, and several municipal campaigns. In addition, the Earth Share nationwide network has a growing number of private employer partners including American Express, The Boston Globe, Sears, Aveda, Houghton Mifflin, Millennium Pharmaceuticals, and Northeast Utilities.

Partnering
Becoming an employer partner is quite simple for most companies.  Earth Share of New England works with corporate partners to establish a fun, efficient, relevant campaign for employees.  Partners determine what type of campaign is right for their company—including whether we should work in conjunction with the United Way, whether paper or electronic giving is most appropriate, and whether the campaign will be low key or a significant event.

Policies
Earth Share of New England distributes donations strictly according to the donor’s wishes--donors may give to one, all, or any combination of our member groups.  If a donor chooses to give to Earth Share of New England's general fund, monies are distributed among all members.

We guarantee the quality and fiscal soundness of our members through an annual review and do not require our members to engage in any additional allocation or grant proposal process, ensuring that each donor’s contribution is distributed exactly as requested.  We charge members a fee for both administrative costs and programmatic efforts such as this website and other initiatives.
